Steve and Kathy Ripley grew up in Pettisville, Ohio, were high school sweethearts and married while they were in college. After graduation they both were hired at Pettisville High School where Steve first taught typewriting and office procedures (and, later, computer applications) in the Business Education Department and Kathy was a math teacher. Steve asked the president of the Chamber of Commerce to serve on his school's advisory committee. In a conversation with the chamber president, Steve discovered that Pettisville needed a local video store. The closest video distributor was over 20 miles away, and the chamber believe this was a business opportunity being overlooked. When Steve and Kathy about his discussion with the chamber president, she exclaimed "I'd love to own a video store!" Steve and Kathy talked over the situation and made the decision for Kathy to leave teaching. Steve would help her set up the business and spend summers and weekends helping out, while their children would have made-to-order jobs after school. Steve and Kathy convinced many people that their idea was a good one. In 1992 Hollywood & Vine Videos (with Steve and Kathy as major stockholders) received a corporate charter and began serving the community. The store is located in the corner of Kneepatch Avenue and Main Street. The chamber's prediction proved correct. Pettisville residents were eager to have a video store in their community. Hollywood & Vine serves the community with great ease. Hollywood & Vine is Pettisville's video store.
