Create a timeline

Part I

1. Create a table in word like the following:

Date

Personal Fact

Historical/World Fact

Fun Fact (pop culture)

2. Type in 6 important dates in your life.
For example,

• year you were born,
• year you started school,
• year you broke an arm,
• year you learned to ride a bike,
• year your sister or brother was born.

3. Use the sites listed below to find a historical event that happened the same year. Type your fact into your chart from above.

• Man landed on the moon
• A war started
• A war ended
• A natural disaster that occurred
  
  

4. Use the sites listed below to find a “fun” cultural event.
For example: Type into your chart above.

• What movie was released
• What book came out
• What was the current fad in clothing
• What was the most popular song.

Part II

Now we are going to create a graphical timeline using autoshapes. Use the information above. Be sure to check out my sample!

1. Open a new document – change the page setup to landscape
2. Using the drawing toolbar, create a line across the page.
3. Using a text box – type in the date of 6 important events in your life. (date born, date first went to school etc)
4. Type in the other world events that happened in the same year.
5. Using Autoshapes>Callouts – add a call out for each important date
6. Add clip art for the events
7. Have fun!
